The latest TRAI Performance Indicators report for Q4 2010 is rich with data. This time TRAI published a report on the number of PCO and their growth in India. We have visualized this information below:

Observations

  • The rate of increase of PCO connections is, in reality, rate of decrease. The highest decrease or disconnections of PCOs have been seen in Maharashtra, followed by Andhra Pradesh and the Karnataka.
  • Tamil Nadu sees the highest number of PCO connections between Q3 and Q4 2010. Interestingly, followed by Maharashtra where Tata Indicom posted a robust growth in PCO connections.
  • Reliance Communications registered maximum number of PCO connections in Andhra Pradesh
  • Tamil Nadu and Karnataka still put their faith in BSNL for PCO connections. They were the 2 circles which posted largest number of PCO connections for BSNL.

TRAI attributes the large decline in PCO connections to the increasing penetration of Mobile telephony in Semi-Urban and Rural areas.
