Indian Telecom Operators are required to report subscriber and adjusted gross revenue information to the telecom regulator TRAI, which publishes with the subscriber data monthly, and the adjusted gross revenue data quarterly. This visualization allows you to compare the performance of telecom operators – both in terms of revenue and subscribers by circle.

This information is specifically for March 2011.

Sample Trends:

- Airtel and Aircel dominate the Tamil Nadu circle, but Airtel has the upper hand in terms of revenue.
- In the West Bengal circle, Vodafone has fared well in terms of subscriber base and revenue, while BSNL is the second strongest player in terms of revenue.
- Telcos like S-Tel,MTS (Sistema Shyam) and Videocon are yet to find their foothold in most of the circles.
- In Madhya Pradesh, Idea and Reliance have comparable subscribers but Reliance lags behind in terms of revenues.

Assumptions:

  • While the revenue numbers for Reliance Telecom and Reliance Communications Ltd. are reported separately, the subscriber information does not follow this separation and is reported as one single figure. For the certain circles, where this difference appears, we have combined the revenue numbers to match the subscriber base. In effect, we see them under “Reliance” as a group of both these subsidiaries
  • Aircel, BSNL and Vodafone are the only operators, who report the revenue information for Chennai circle separately and adds the subscriber information under the Tamil Nadu circle. We have combined these number to provide sanctity to the data and added, Chennai revenues to that of Tamil Nadu
